Showers and thunderstorms moving through Metro Detroit
An air quality advisory will be in effect for Saturday, May 18 for part of Southeast Michigan, including Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties.
Pollutants are forecast to be in the "unhealthy range sensitive groups," such as individuals with asthma and other respiratory diseases and disorders.
Daytime heating and light winds will contribute to the concentration of ozone, particularly during the afternoon and early evening hours. It is recommended to "avoid strenuous outdoor activities" during the alert. People can limit their contribution to ozone formation by waiting to refuel, driving less, not grilling, and not using gas-powered lawn equipment.
THIS EVENING:
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are slowly moving east across Southeast Michigan at 10 to 15 mph. Some storms may become strong enough to produce winds over 40 mph and small hail. Downpours could result in ponding on roadways.
TONIGHT:
The scattered showers and thunderstorms will wind down and move out of the area by 10 p.m. With mostly cloudy skies and light winds out of the east-southeast around 5 mph, patchy fog will develop in some areas. Lows will be in the upper 50s.
TOMORROW (SATURDAY):
There will be areas of patchy fog in the morning. Then, we will have a mix of sun and clouds for the rest of the day, including the chance of some haze. An air quality advisory will be in effect for Metro Detroit due to an expected increase in ozone levels. Highs will be in the upper 70s to 80 degrees. Winds will be out of the east-southeast at 4 to 8 mph.
TOMORROW NIGHT:
It will be mostly clear with lows in the upper 50s.
SUNDAY:
It will be warm and mostly sunny. Highs will be in the lower to mid 80s. Lows will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
