Mother's Day ends with chance of northern lights over Metro Detroit, late-night showers
The aurora borealis, or “northern lights,” will be viewable over Southeast Michigan again. The best aurora is often seen from 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., according to the Space Weather Prediction Center.
TONIGHT:
Much of the area will have a window to potentially see the northern lights, but clouds will increase after midnight. Showers will move across the area overnight, including the chance of a thunderstorm. Most of the rain will be out of the region before the morning commute. Lows will be in the mid to upper 50s. Winds will be out of the south at 6 to 12 mph.
TOMORROW (MONDAY):
Besides a few morning showers, skies will become partly cloudy to mostly sunny midday over Metro Detroit. Clouds and rain chances will continue over the Thumb during this time. Along a slow-moving cold front, the showers and thunderstorms will begin building and setting up over Metro Detroit in the mid-afternoon and last through the evening. Rain may be heavy at times. Afternoon temperatures will jump to around 80 degrees. Southwesterly winds will be 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
TOMORROW NIGHT:
Although there will be breaks in the rain, the chance of it will continue. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy. Lows will be in the mid 50s.
TUESDAY:
Rain will be widespread in the morning before tapering by late morning and early afternoon. Behind the cold front, temperatures will dive with highs only in the lower to mid 60s. Lows will be around 50 degrees.
